In a year with so much uncertainty, a local nonprofit has been dedicated to keep things going. Bellevue LifeSpring set an ambitious goal in September to raise $1.4 million by December 31. This week they exceeded their goal, ensuring no child in Bellevue experiences hunger or homelessness as a result of the virus. 

The BDA and Chamber voiced adoption of the preliminary budget as originally presented by the Bellevue City Manager at the third and final public hearing. Based on careful review, members from both organizations agreed that the presented budget responds to challenges and bolsters resiliency against the recession. Mayor Lynne Robinson has terminated an emergency order for overnight curfews for downtown Bellevue through Saturday morning. The city will return to daily risk assessments to determine the need to institute further measures for public safety. No curfew is planned for the night of Thursday, June 4.

With “solving our region's biggest challenges” in the title, October’s BDA Breakfast carried quite a bit of heft. But that’s also what made the morning so compelling: we heard from an all-star panel of Washington leaders on how we can begin to do just that – all through collaboration and proactive policy.

The 2019 Study Tour trip to Dallas was a marathon of activities and lessons learned. For three days in early October, a group of 60 stakeholders explored Dallas’s urban environment and met with local leaders. Thematic takeaways included Dallas’s development success through public-privates partnerships and how investing in programmable space can yield tremendous economic activity. Thank you to all who attended last Tuesday's Bellevue City Council Candidates Forum at the September BDA Breakfast. Attendees heard from eight candidates running for four seats on the Bellevue City Council. Kim Malcolm, host of KUOW’s All Things Considered, moderated the hour-long forum, giving each candidate equal time for opening and closing remarks, as well as the opportunity to address five different questions.

The NE corner of Downtown Bellevue’s largest public park is getting a facelift! The City of Bellevue has submitted permits for construction of new park improvements to create a pedestrian gateway at the NE corner of the Bellevue Downtown Park at NE 4th and Bellevue Way. This will make Bellevue Downtown Park more accessible to retail customers, visitors and Downtown employees, creating even more connectivity through our dynamic Downtown.

Bellwether has landed once again in Downtown Bellevue, transforming the places we often look past into thought-provoking artwork and installations. 

The Bellevue Downtown Association (BDA) officially opposes the Washington Initiative 976 ballot measure. The BDA joins a growing coalition of employers, business and trade organizations opposing the initiative, noting transportation projects are badly needed to relieve congestion, improve transit reliability, and support access for Bellevue employees, residents and visitors.

Downtown's Blazing Bagels is moving to a new location at the end of this month. It may be a detour for commuters traveling into the transit center, but its worth the walk. Learn more about the new location and when the shift will occur.

Sound Transit is celebrating an incredible milestone! Contractors are halfway done with construction of the East Link light rail extension. The East Link extension will become the “Blue Line” when we open for service in 2023. People will notice that some stations and trackways look complete and ready to service, but all 14-miles and 10 stations of the “Blue Line” will open all at once in 2023, after testing and pre-revenue service.

The Bellevue Downtown Association made the first step in its advocacy work on the Wilburton land use code update. The City of Bellevue conducts a biennial survey of local businesses to get a grasp of the current economic situation of businesses in Bellevue. We took a look at some of the key highlights from the 2017. Overall, the majority of businesses in Bellevue (69%) feel that the City is headed in the right direction.

Carpooling app, Scoop, launches in Bellevue on January 29th. The TransManage team recognized this a possible solution to help ease the traffic in downtown.

The Transportation Commission on January 11 approved a recommendation to City Council supporting a demonstration bikeway along 108th Ave NE.  Due to time constraints, the Commission postponed its hearing on free-floating bike share to January 25, when they are expected to vote a recommendation to Council.
