Amazon today announced that employees will be back in office five days a week starting on January 2, 2025, expanding on their initial three-day return to office plan implemented back in 2023.

In a memo to employees, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy wrote that the new policy gives employees opportunities to invent, collaborate, and be connected enough to each other and their culture to deliver the absolute best for their customers and businesses. The memo mentioned that the new policy will bring back the assigned desk arrangement and provide flexibility for those with extenuating circumstances like a house emergency, a sick child, and extended deadlines.

“To address the second issue of being better set up to invent, collaborate, and be connected enough to each other and our culture to deliver the absolute best for customers and the business, we’ve decided that we’re going to return to being in the office the way we were before the onset of COVID,” Jassy said.

For the Downtown Bellevue community, this means more pedestrian activity to our already vibrant city.

"Amazon’s decision is a win for downtown Bellevue, promising positive impacts on storefronts and local businesses," said Patrick Bannon, Bellevue Downtown Association president and CEO. "More employees on a regular basis will increase foot traffic and further energize the downtown community. We’re excited to welcome this boost from their workforce to the heart of our city."
