The NE corner of Downtown Bellevue’s largest public park is getting a facelift! The City of Bellevue has submitted permits for construction of new park improvements to create a pedestrian gateway at the NE corner of the Bellevue Downtown Park at NE 4th and Bellevue Way. This will make Bellevue Downtown Park more accessible to retail customers, visitors and Downtown employees, creating even more connectivity through our dynamic Downtown.
The new gateway is proposed to have several exciting features including a pedestrian gateway plaza and a centralized sculpture with enhanced landscaping and fountains, creating and a popular ingress to the rest of Downtown Park. There will be additional seating options as well, giving visitors a respite from the hustle and bustle of Downtown.
The park was recently updated with the Complete the Circle and Inspiration Playground projects back in 2017. This project adds to those improvements, further enhancing this amenity while fulfilling the vision for the Bellevue Grand Connection – an active urban spine through the heart of Downtown Bellevue. This route, connecting new public improvements and private development, will link people to places from Meydenbauer Bay to Eastrail on the east side of I-405.
The Downtown Bellevue gateway project is scheduled to begin in early 2020 and to open to the public in late 2020 or early 2021.
