He(ART) of Bellevue Artist: Morgan Fyfe Powell
Southern Artist Draws Inspiration From the Pacific Northwest
Abstract artist Morgan Fyfe Powell is heavily influenced by the places she spends time at. After graduating from the University of Mississippi, she moved to the Pacific Northwest and now calls Seattle her home. Fyfe still creates art from her roots in the South.
“I grew up appreciating the warmth and hospitality of the South and continue to paint the peace-filled landscapes,” she said. “Moving to Seattle has been my greatest adventure and has challenged me to paint my interpretation of the layers and textures I am surrounded by.”
She began creating art at a very young age. Fyfe was drawn to it as a kid, but it didn’t become a regular practice until 2013. She now lives her dream life painting full-time and working with others to create art.
You can see Fyfe and her artwork in person this weekend at the Bellevue Downtown Arts Market.
BDA: What type of art do you create?
MF.: I create lively original landscapes and abstract paintings. My go-to materials are heavy body acrylic paints and gold & silver leaf on canvas.
BDA: Where did you learn or develop your technique?
MF: Through lots and lots of hours of creating! I began painting as a hobby and am self-taught. I've always had a love of bringing something to life and exploring texture and layering to create a unique piece to brighten a wall.
BDA: How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected you and your artwork?
MF: Covid has been a unique season of unforeseen challenges, but I had to find the silver lining in it all to keep going. This time created space for me to dig deeper and create art with a deeper purpose. I spent about a year building a series I recently released named "STILL + grounded." Each piece embodies a little lesson I learned through the past year when we were all likely experiencing uncertainty.
BDA: What is your latest project?
MF: My latest project is available in the landscape series I mentioned above, "STILL + grounded," but my next project will follow some of the themes of this series with more abstract pieces with earthy inspiration. More details on my latest work can be found here. I also share these stories behind-the-scenes on my Instagram.
BDA: Where can people learn more about your art?
MF: To learn more or view past work visit my website. or get a behind-the-scenes look on my Instagram.
BDA: Anything else you'd like to share with the Bellevue community?
MF: I am thrilled to be a part of the upcoming Bellevue Downtown Arts Market and would love to meet you! Come visit me at my booth C45.
