Sugar N Flakes: Downtown's Dessert Destination

Growing up, Pooja Agarwal was an early lover of anything chocolate - chocolate chip cookies, mocha cake, and most of all, gooey, brownies made with cocoa. For some, that sweet-tooth results in cavities but for Agarwal, that passion became a lifelong career. 

 Located on the ground floor of Surrey on Main Apartments in Downtown Bellevue lies Agarwal's very own business Sugar N Flakes Bakery & Cafe. Custom cakes are what they're known for - the team works overtime to ensure each customer’s dream becomes a reality. 

Agarwal has a true understanding that baking is never just about the quality of the desert - it is also about the relationship and story behind the sweet treat.

“Whether a cake is for sixty dollars or for six hundred dollars, my effort for each is the same,” Agarwal said.

Cakes are eaten at the most important moments of your life - your wedding day, family birthdays, anniversaries - moments you carry with you forever. There is no question that your baked goods should be as special as the moment they were made for - Sugar N Flakes ensures that happens each and every time. 

“There was a customer who first came for her bridal shower,” Agarwal said. “She liked her cake so much, we did her wedding cake, which was for approximately 200 guest servings - we did a four tier cake for her. She came for a gender reveal, she came for the first birthday, and recently we did her son’s second birthday. Some people create a special place in your heart, so now, whenever she asks for a cake, we are like, ‘yes, we are here for you!’” 

Despite the name of the company, excess artificial sugar is avoided at Sugar N Flakes. The team is highly aware of all the health concerns that come with a high-sugar diet, and tries to keep their sugar content in check so their products can be enjoyed by everybody.  

The menu also offers gluten-free, vegan friendly, dairy-free and eggless options -- an intentional choice to ensure everyone feels included. 

“We offer Swiss buttercreams because they are low in sugar,” Agarwal said.  “We add different components that have their own natural sweetness.” 

As fond as the Sugar N Flakes team is of their regular customers, it is always exciting to have celebrity customers, especially those whom you and your team are a fan of. So when famous cricket star Shri Sunil Gavaskar’s team recently requested the business to make his 75th birthday cake, Agarwal and her team were over-the-moon. 

“It was an honor for me to do that,” Agarwal said.  

Three things keep the Sugar N Flakes business successful - passion, family and teamwork. According to Agarwal, opening her bakery could not have been done without the support of her family and her team. 

“I believe in teamwork,” Agarwal said. “I cannot say that where Sugar N Flakes is, is all because of me. It is because of my team. I have a wonderful team there, I have a lovely baker, I have a designer, and I have the other girls in there. Everyone is giving their best and each and every hand counts."

Most of all, however, she credits her loyal customers for her success. 

“I would like to thank my customers who trust us all the time, and come up here and give us a chance to serve them,” Agarwal said.
