Tapster: A Modern Twist on Bartending

Tapster's wide array of beverages on tap, each with a short description and place of origin.

Bellevue’s heavily anticipated newest opening, Tapster, is far from new - the term “tapster” was coined over 400 years ago as a nickname for a bartender pouring drinks via tap. Today, the concept still thrives but being reintroduced in a new format that invites people to become their own bartender.

Tapster first opened in 2017 and has quickly expanded to five locations nationally, including Chicago, Seattle, Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Bellevue. Depending on the experience the customer would like to have, each drink is charged by the ounce.

“Guests can sample a few ounces from each tap or pour a full glass – paying only for what is poured,". Bellevue location’s manager, Garrett Lee, said.  "This creates a uniquely personalized experience that can vary on each visit."

Tapster doesn’t just offer a wide variety of local and imported beers. They’ve also introduced a rotating selection of wines, kombucha, coffee, and non-alcoholic craft sodas to the party! With 54 different taps, the newest location is sure to provide something for every kind of beverage connoisseur. When you stop by, make sure to take advantage of their bright and inviting indoor swing seating or outdoor patio.

For those looking to have a fun group outing with friends, Tapster is designed to be a landing place for big groups. Each week, they host an impressive schedule of events including Sip n Paint classes, trivia nights, and other discount events such as $5 Wine Wednesday and $2 beer days. They offer a limited menu of classic bar food including pretzels, popcorn, chips, and beef jerky, but people are also welcome to bring their own food when they visit and take advantage of the incredible local restaurant scene before sitting down for a pint.

“Our main objective is to provide a safe and inviting environment that caters to low stress and fun outings with friends,” Lee says. “We love the growth happening in Bellevue at the moment too [and are] excit[ed] to be a part of this.”

The opening of the new 2 Line providing easier access to the Eastside and Bellevue’s thriving tech community are the perfect combination to ensure Tapster’s success. So come by for a sip after work and taste some of the best ales in the PNW. Plus, be on the lookout for their future partnerships with other beloved local Bellevue businesses!
